About Nightmagic Cattery
Nightmagic Cattery is a long-established, small-scale Devon Rex breeding program built on experience, education, and an unwavering commitment to ethical breeding. At the heart of our program is a thoughtful, intentional approach—one rooted in transparency, care, and long-term stewardship of the Devon Rex breed.
A Lifetime in the Cat Fancy World
My journey into the world of breeding and showing cats began before I could walk. My mother was a passionate cat breeder long before I was born, and I grew up immersed in the cat fancy world—surrounded by the sights, sounds, and heart of cat shows, breeding programs, and rescue work.

Her dedication to animal programs extended well beyond cats. She also actively showed rabbits and Arabian horses, and my parents approached every program with the same philosophy: build strong, ethical foundations and never cut corners. That environment taught me that excellence in cats—just like in any species—is not accidental. It comes from education, intentional selection, proper care, and a long-term commitment to doing things correctly, even when it isn’t the easiest or cheapest path.

From a very young age, I was hands-on, helping in every way I could. I worked at cat shows running drinks for exhibitors and judges, cleaning cages, and learning the logistics of show management. By childhood, I had earned certification and "title" as the youngest clerk with TICA, gaining an early understanding of breed standards and the dedication required to excel in this world.

The Founding of Nightmagic
Working alongside my mother taught me the importance of responsible, ethical breeding, but I always dreamed of carving out a path of my own. In 2005, that dream became a reality with the founding of Nightmagic Cattery, originally focused on the elegant Somali breed. This was a deliberate choice at the time—my mother was working with Abyssinians, and I wanted to establish a distinct program while applying the same principles I had grown up with.

One of my greatest points of pride from that era was QGC Nightmagic Little Bunny Fuu Fuu, whose offspring went on to show homes around the world and contributed meaningfully to the development and structure of the breed.

A Devon Destiny
Despite being surrounded by cats my entire life, it was always the Devon Rex that stayed with me.

While finishing my Veterinary Technician program and preparing to begin my Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Services Management, I was asked a simple question:

“If you could choose any breed to work with, what would it be?”

That question stirred a long-held memory. I was around seven years old at a cat show when I met a tiny white Devon Rex kitten—the only Devon Rex I had ever seen at the time. Even after growing up around countless cats, that single kitten left a lasting impression.

When I graduated, that memory came full circle. My graduation gift was a Devon Rex from Katzisland Cattery—QGC Katzisland Zoey Zoe of Nightmagic, a striking calico with the goofiest personality. She marked not just the end of one chapter, but the beginning of my Devon Rex journey.

When the time came to retire Zoey from breeding, I had every intention of keeping her with me forever. However, after being contacted by the owner of one of our kittens—who worked at a Veterans hospice care facility in Massachusetts—I was presented with an opportunity that gave me pause. Knowing Zoey’s gentle, intuitive nature, I realized that keeping her solely for myself may have meant denying her a chance to make a meaningful difference for others.

She went on to live alongside her companion, Madison, at the hospice facility, where both served as therapy cats. While letting her go was not easy, I was deeply moved by what staff later shared—Zoey often spent extra time with those nearing the end of life, offering quiet comfort and helping ensure families could be present when it mattered most. Knowing the peace she brought reaffirmed for me that retirement can be a deeply meaningful and purposeful chapter in a cat’s life.

For those interested, Zoey and Madison’s work as therapy cats in a Veterans hospice setting was later featured in a local news article.

Education & Professional Background
My approach to breeding is informed by both formal education and hands-on professional experience. I am a Licensed Veterinary Technician and hold a Bachelor's degree in Veterinary Services Management, a background that shapes every aspect of this program—from health screening and nutrition to enrichment, socialization, and placement decisions.

This education allows me to approach breeding with structure, accountability, and evidence-based decision-making.

In addition to formal veterinary education, I was raised in a household that valued both evidence-based medicine and supportive holistic care. My father, a chiropractor certified to work with animals, contributed to an early understanding of biomechanics, comfort, and preventative wellness—an influence that complements, but never replaces, veterinary medicine within our program.

I also completed my internship and professional training in an animal shelter environment. This experience provided firsthand insight into the long-term consequences of irresponsible breeding and poor genetic stewardship, further reinforcing my commitment to ethical breeding practices, responsible placement, and lifetime support for the animals I produce.

I am not a professional Breeder...
I am a passionate hobbyist
Why That Matters for You — and Our Cats
Nightmagic Cattery is intentionally operated as a true hobby breeding program.

Breeding is not our job—it is our passion. We do not breed cats for income, but because we love the Devon Rex breed and want to responsibly contribute to its future.

Our cats are family members, not business assets. They live in our home, sleep on our beds, and are loved as pets first and always. They are never treated as products or production animals.

Ethics Over Profit
Because we do not rely on kittens for financial stability, we never compromise their well-being. There is no pressure to overbreed, cut corners, or make choices that put our animals at risk. We do not breed for rare colors or flashy traits. Our focus remains on health, temperament, and preserving the integrity of the breed.

Over more than 20 years of breeding, Nightmagic Cattery has averaged just 4–5 thoughtfully planned litters per year. This intentionally limited scale allows us to prioritize health, temperament, proper socialization, and responsible placement rather than volume or demand.

Availability varies from year to year based on the health and readiness of our cats. We do not breed to meet demand.
Peace of Mind for Our Families
As a prospective kitten owner, you can feel confident knowing your kitten was born and raised in a safe, loving home environment—not a facility focused on numbers.

Breeding with heart, not for profit.
That is what sets Nightmagic apart.

Home Raised, With Love
Our Devon Rex cats are raised in a true home environment, sharing space with our family, a gentle Doberman, and a pair of spirited Brussels Griffons. This provides our kittens with daily exposure to a household setting and canine companions, resulting in confident, well-socialized cats.
Yes, our Devons are bed hogs.
And yes—they are our pets first and always.

Our Standards & Practices
Health & Genetic Standards
All cats in our program are FIV/FeLV negative and undergo comprehensive genetic screening for known breed-specific conditions and additional health markers as appropriate. Health testing is updated as standards evolve, and breeding decisions are made with long-term health and welfare in mind.

Veterinary Oversight
With a background as a Licensed Veterinary Technician and a degree in Veterinary Services Management, health decisions within our program are guided by formal education, hands-on clinical experience, and evidence-based practices. Preventative care, nutrition, and wellness are prioritized at every stage of life.

Breed & Show Standards
Nightmagic Cattery is registered with both TICA and CFA. Our cats have earned recognition in show rings both regionally and internationally, reflecting excellence in breed standard, temperament, and presentation. While we have been highly active in the TICA show ring in the past, our current approach to showing is selective and intentional, guided by life circumstances and a continued focus on health, welfare, and responsible program management. Showing remains a valuable tool for evaluation, not an end goal in itself.

Breed Education & Outreach
Education is a core part of responsible breeding. Beyond our own program, we value sharing knowledge and engaging in breed education through public outreach, mentorship, and participation in events such as Meet the Breeds. These opportunities allow us to connect with prospective owners and the public, helping them better understand the Devon Rex—its temperament, care needs, health considerations, and what responsible ownership truly involves.
We believe informed families make better long-term homes, and thoughtful education helps support the breed well beyond our own cattery.

Placement & Lifetime Responsibility
Every kitten is placed thoughtfully and only with families who meet our expectations for lifelong care. Responsible placement does not end when our kittens leave my home—I remain a resource and point of support for our families throughout the life of their cat.
